Naive Realism

Naive realism is a psychological concept describing the belief that people perceive the world objectively as it is, while those who disagree are uninformed, biased, or influenced by ideology. It arises when subjective perceptual experiences are treated as direct access to reality, making alternative interpretations seem less valid and encouraging people to explain disagreement through deficiencies in others rather than differences in perspective. In psychology, the concept helps explain interpersonal conflict, political polarization, stereotyping, and communication breakdown, while informing research on social cognition, attribution, and perspective taking.

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University In an ideal world researchers would conduct their studies in real world settings where behaviors naturally happen. For example, if you want to see what influences individuals’ voting behavior, it would be best to watch them vote. However, research in these settings is not always ethical or even practical. Further, a researcher may want more control over the setting to better pinpoint the exact...

With effector functions distinct from other T cell subsets, Th17 cells have been centrally implicated in inflammatory autoimmunity. This in vitro Th17 differentiation protocol provides a means to determine whether naïve CD4+ T lymphocytes can differentiate into Th17 cells, and to further examine their role in autoimmunity and host response.

We describe a method for generating regulatory, memory and naïve T cells from a single human blood donor. Polarized Tregs can be then compared to other subsets in a variety of genetic and functional applications with genetic homogeneity, including a suppression assay also detailed here.

An In Vitro Technique to Differentiate GM-CSF Producing T Helper Cells from Naïve T Cells

This video demonstrates the in vitro differentiation of granulocyte-macrophage-colony-stimulating factor or GM-CSF-producing T helper cells (THGM). Isolated naïve T cells are stimulated for differentiation into THGM, which is confirmed by detecting high intracellular GM-CSF production and a low expression of other T helper cell-specific cytokines.
