“Dr. Makoto Hagiwara is an Associate Professor at the University of Niigata Prefecture, Japan. He obtained his Ph.D. from Tokyo University of Agriculture and completed postdoctoral research at the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellow. Dr. Hagiwara’s expertise encompasses biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, molecular nutrition, food functionality, infection control, and gerontology. His research focuses on intracellular vesicular trafficking, particularly endocytosis, small GTP-binding proteins, protein–protein interactions, host defense mechanisms against microbial infection, periodontal disease and systemic health, and the biological functions of food-derived compounds. He has also contributed to methodological advancements in SDS-PAGE. More recently, his work has elucidated nitric oxide–dependent protein S-nitrosylation as a regulatory mechanism of phagocytosis. Through both basic and translational research, Dr. Hagiwara aims to advance understanding of disease mechanisms and to promote disease prevention, therapeutic development, and healthy aging.”
