Nomenclature of Secondary and Tertiary Amines

Le ammine secondarie e terziarie possono essere simmetriche con gruppi alchilici identici attaccati all'atomo di azoto o asimmetriche quando è presente più di un tipo di gruppo alchilico.
Nella nomenclatura comune, le ammine secondarie e terziarie sono chiamate alchilammine. Per le ammine simmetriche, vengono utilizzati i prefissi, di- e tri-. Nel caso di ammine asimmetriche, i singoli sostituenti sono identificati ed elencati in ordine alfabetico.
Nella nomenclatura IUPAC, le ammine sono denominate N-alchilalcanomine.
Per assegnare il nome IUPAC, identificare i gruppi alchilici attaccati all'atomo di azoto. Successivamente, seleziona la catena più lunga come genitore, mentre gli altri gruppi alchilici sono elencati come sostituenti.

Nella nomenclatura IUPAC le ammine secondarie e terziarie sono denominate N-alchilalcanammine. Il nome IUPAC per una struttura viene assegnato tramite il seguente protocollo:

Secondary and tertiary amines are ammonia derivatives with two or three hydrogen atoms replaced by alkyl groups. They may be symmetrical, with the same alkyl groups attached to nitrogen, or unsymmetrical, with more than one kind of alkyl group present.

These compounds are often named as alkylamines in standard naming. For symmetrical secondary and tertiary amines, the prefixes di- and tri- are used. For unsymmetrical amines, each substituent is named and listed in alphabetical order.

IUPAC naming uses the form N-alkylalkanamine for secondary and tertiary amines. To build the name, first identify the alkyl groups attached to nitrogen. Then choose the longest chain as the parent and number it so the carbon bonded to nitrogen gets the lowest possible number.

Next, assign locants to the substituents. Use the letter N to show alkyl groups attached directly to the nitrogen atom. If a chiral center is present, write its configuration at the beginning of the name.

Quaternary ammonium ions are named in a similar way. The suffix -amine is replaced with -ammonium, and the counterion is added to the name.
