Body Planes

Il corpo umano può essere diviso utilizzando linee e piani immaginari per aiutare a comprendere la sua organizzazione interna.
Quando il corpo è in posizione verticale, una linea retta chiamata asse verticale viene utilizzata come riferimento chiaro e coerente per orientare la posizione delle parti del corpo e la direzione del movimento.
Inoltre, i piani sezionano il corpo utilizzando superfici piatte immaginarie.
I tre piani cardinali del corpo sono frontale, sagittale e trasversale.
Il piano frontale o coronale divide il corpo in porzioni anteriori e posteriori.
Il piano sagittale divide il corpo verticalmente in lati destro e sinistro.
L'equa divisione del corpo attraverso la linea mediana si traduce in sezioni sagittali medie. Al contrario, il sezionamento attraverso il piano parasagittale si traduce in lati diseguali.
Il piano trasversale, perpendicolare ai piani frontale e sagittale, divide orizzontalmente il corpo in regioni superiore e inferiore.

I piani corporei nell'anatomia sono superfici piane immaginarie usate come punti di riferimento per dividere il corpo in sezioni per lo studio anatomico. Questi piani sono essenziali per comprendere l'orientamento, le relazioni e l'organizzazione spaziale delle strutture anatomiche. 

 Il piano sagittale è il piano che divide il corpo o un organo verticalmente in parti destra e sinistra. Se questo piano verticale corre direttamente al centro del corpo risultando in una divisione uguale, viene chiamato piano sagittale medio o mediano. Se divide il corpo in parti destra e sinistra non equivalenti, viene chiamato piano parasagittale o meno comunemente sezione longitudinale. 

 Il piano frontale è il piano che divide il corpo o un organo in una porzione anteriore (frontale) e una porzione posteriore. Il piano frontale viene spesso chiamato piano coronale. ("Corona" viene dal latino.) "Coronale" si riferisce di solito alle sezioni del cranio. 

 Il piano trasversale è il piano orizzontale che divide il corpo o un organo in porzioni superiori e inferiori. I piani trasversali producono immagini chiamate sezioni trasversali. Le sezioni oblique sono tagli diagonali tra i piani orizzontali e verticali ma sono difficili da interpretare. 

 Applicazioni 

 Tecniche di imaging come la sonografia, la tomografia computerizzata o la risonanza magnetica producono diverse immagini di un paziente in posizione anatomica standard e costruiscono un sistema di assi X-Y-Z attorno al paziente per applicare i piani corporei alle immagini ottenute. I singoli organi possono anche essere divisi in piani per aiutare a identificare dettagli interni minori. 

 I piani corporei descrivono anche i movimenti anatomici attraverso i quali un corpo si sposta. Un anatomista potrebbe modellare l'ampiezza di movimento di una parte del corpo misurando attraverso quali piani può muoversi e quanta distanza può percorrere. 

 I cambiamenti anatomici durante lo sviluppo embriologico vengono misurati con i piani corporei. Ad esempio, durante lo sviluppo embrionale umano, il piano coronale è orizzontale ma diventa verticale man mano che l'embrione si sviluppa in feto.

Anatomy sections and body planes are imaginary flat surfaces used to divide the body for study. They help show the orientation, relationships, and spatial layout of anatomical structures. These reference planes are also useful for describing organs and body parts in a standard way.

The sagittal plane divides the body or an organ vertically into right and left sides. When that cut goes through the middle and makes equal halves, it is called the midsagittal or median plane. When it makes unequal right and left sides, it is called a parasagittal plane, and it may also be called a longitudinal section.

The frontal plane divides the body or an organ into anterior and posterior parts. The anterior side is the front, and the posterior side is the rear. This plane is also called the coronal plane. The word coronal comes from the Latin word for crown. In anatomy, coronal usually refers to skull sections.

The transverse plane is a horizontal plane that divides the body or an organ into upper and lower parts. Cuts made in this plane are called cross sections. Oblique sections are diagonal cuts between the horizontal and vertical planes, and they can be harder to interpret.

Body planes are also used in medical imaging. Sonography, computed tomography, and MRI create images of a patient in standard anatomical position and build an X-Y-Z axis around the body. The same planes can also divide individual organs to help identify smaller internal details.

These planes also help describe body movement. An anatomist can use them to model a limb’s range of motion by measuring which planes it moves through and how far it travels. Body planes are also used to describe changes during embryological development. For example, in human embryonic development, the coronal plane is horizontal at first and becomes vertical as the embryo develops into a fetus.
