Psychomotor Disturbances

Psychomotor disturbances are clinically significant changes in the speed, initiation, coordination, or purposefulness of movement and related behavior, making them important indicators of altered brain function. They can appear as psychomotor slowing, reduced spontaneous activity, agitation, repetitive actions, or impaired motor control when neural systems regulating motivation, attention, and movement interact abnormally. Clinicians assess these changes through observation of posture, speech, activity level, reaction time, and goal-directed behavior. In behavioral and neuropsychiatric research, psychomotor disturbances help characterize conditions such as mood disorders, psychotic disorders, neurological disease, and medication effects, while longitudinal assessment can support diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and evaluation of functional outcomes.

2026

An ecological disturbance is a temporary disruption in the environment resulting from abiotic, biotic, or anthropogenic factors, causing a pronounced change in an ecosystem. The impact of an ecological disturbance, which can depend on its intensity, frequency, and spatial distribution, plays a significant role in shaping the species diversity within the ecosystem.Ecological disturbances can be caused by an event as small as the trampling of underbrush to an incident as wide-ranging as a forest...

Disturbances in Heart Rhythm

2025

Arrhythmia or dysrhythmia refers to an abnormal heart rhythm caused by a defect in the heart's conduction system. It can cause the heart to beat irregularly, too quickly, or too slowly, leading to symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, and fainting. Factors such as stress, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, cocaine, certain drugs, congenital defects, diseases, and electrolyte abnormalities can trigger arrhythmias. Arrhythmias are categorized by their speed, rhythm, and origin. A slow heart...

A Hemocyte Disturbance Assay to Assess Hemocyte Re-Adhesion to Hematopoietic Pockets

2025

This video demonstrates the hemocyte disturbance assay, evaluating hemocyte re-adhesion in Drosophila larvae's hematopoietic pockets. Mechanical disturbance releases resident hemocytes, elevating circulating hemocyte counts. Post-recovery, re-adherence of resident hemocytes is confirmed, illustrating reversibility.
