Beta-arrestin Isoforms

Beta-arrestin isoforms are closely related intracellular adaptor proteins that regulate signaling by G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), making them important subjects in biochemistry and pharmacology. After receptor activation and phosphorylation, beta-arrestin 1 or beta-arrestin 2 binds the receptor, uncouples it from heterotrimeric G proteins, and promotes clathrin-mediated internalization while assembling signaling complexes. Although the isoforms share core functions, differences in expression, localization, and interactions can produce distinct effects on receptor trafficking and downstream pathways. Studying these proteins helps explain GPCR desensitization and biased signaling and supports the development of drugs that selectively modify receptor outcomes.

Beta

2024

Beta is a crucial metric in finance used to assess an investment's risk and expected return relative to the overall market. It is calculated as the slope of the line in a scatterplot that compares the returns of an individual stock to the returns of the market benchmark, typically represented by a broad market index. Beta quantifies how much a stock's price moves in response to market movements, providing insight into its volatility and systematic risk. A beta of one indicates that the stock's...
