Rabbit Trachea

Rabbit trachea is a mammalian airway structure that conducts air to the lungs while supporting mucociliary clearance and maintaining an open respiratory passage. Its cartilage rings provide mechanical support, whereas the ciliated epithelial lining moves mucus and trapped particles toward the pharynx; smooth muscle and connective tissue help regulate airway function. In bioengineering, rabbit trachea provides a relevant preclinical model for studying airway anatomy, tissue injury, biomaterials, and tracheal repair. Researchers use it to evaluate engineered scaffolds, implants, and regenerative strategies, including their biocompatibility, mechanical performance, integration with host tissue, and effects on respiratory function.

The trachea, commonly known as the windpipe, is a vital part of the human respiratory system. It serves as a passageway for air to travel between the larynx and the bronchi, allowing oxygen to reach the lungs. Let's explore its anatomical features, dimensions, layers of the tracheal wall, associated muscles, and the functions of its parts. Anatomical Features: Location: About half of the trachea is situated in the neck, anterior to the esophagus, and extends from the larynx (at the level of the...

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Anesthesia is an essential component of rabbit surgical and experimental procedures because it prevents pain, reduces stress responses, and helps immobilize the animal during handling and manipulation when general anesthesia is...
