Coincidence Event Correction

Coincidence event correction is a measurement adjustment that accounts for multiple particles or cells being detected as a single event, preventing underestimation in biological analyses. In flow cytometry and related particle-counting systems, coincidence occurs when two or more cells enter the interrogation region together or within the detector’s resolving time, producing overlapping signals; correction methods use event rates, signal characteristics, and instrument dead time to estimate the true count. This approach improves the accuracy of cell concentration, population frequency, and particle-size measurements. It is especially important when samples are concentrated or event rates are high, supporting reliable cytometry, cell biology, and quantitative research.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is a powerful tool for genomic characterization that is limited by the high error rate of the platform (~0.5–2.0%). We describe our methods of error-corrected sequencing that allow us to obviate the NGS error rate and detect mutations at variant allele fractions as rare as 0.0001.

Distance Corrections

To achieve precise distance measurements, especially in surveying and construction, certain corrections must be applied to account for potential sources of error like the standardization errors, temperature variations, and slope adjustments.Standardization error emerges when measurement equipment undergoes changes, such as wear, repairs, or weather impacts. To address this, surveyors compare the equipment’s readings to a standard. This process identifies any deviation that might lead to...

Power Factor Correction

The power transmission to a factory involves the transfer of apparent power, a combination of active and reactive power. The power factor measures how effectively electrical power is converted into useful work output. The ratio of the real power (KW) that does the work to the apparent power (KVA) supplied to the circuit. A poor power factor means the inductive electrical load absorbs more reactive power, causing a low lagging power factor. This results in large voltage drops across the load...

Time-lapse microscopy of fluorescently labeled autophagy markers allows monitoring of the dynamic autophagy response with high temporal resolution. Using specific autophagy and organelle markers in a combination of 3 different colors, we can follow the contribution of a protein to autophagosome formation in a robust spatial and temporal context.
