Electrocatalytic Interruption

Electrocatalytic interruption is a chemistry strategy in which an electrochemical catalytic reaction is deliberately paused or altered to examine and control its reaction pathway. By switching the applied potential or current, stopping electron transfer, or temporarily removing the electrochemical driving force, researchers can interrupt catalytic turnover before restarting the process under defined conditions. This approach helps reveal short-lived intermediates, distinguish electrochemical steps from subsequent chemical reactions, and evaluate catalyst stability and recovery. In electrosynthesis and energy-conversion research, electrocatalytic interruption can clarify mechanisms, improve control over product selectivity, and guide the design of more efficient catalytic systems.

Task Interruption and Resumption Paradigm for Testing the Activation and Pursuit of an Abstract Thinking Goal

2017

This protocol was designed to test the activation and pursuit of cognitive goals (e.g., an abstract thinking goal) using the task interruption and resumption paradigm. The protocol is suitable for cognitive goals that are automatically pursued once activated, as the distraction procedure prevents goal pursuit during the interruption period.

A novel cognitive paradigm is developed to elucidate behavioral and neural correlates of interference by to-be-ignored distractors versus interference by to-be-attended interruptors during a working memory task. In this manuscript, several variants of this paradigm are detailed, and data obtained with this paradigm in younger/older adult participants is reviewed.

Here, we describe a technique, protein film infrared electrochemistry, which allows immobilized redox proteins to be studied spectroscopically under direct electrochemical control at a carbon electrode. Infrared spectra of a single protein sample can be recorded at a range of applied potentials and under a variety of solution conditions.
