Nanodiffraction

Nanodiffraction is a diffraction-based technique that measures the structure and properties of materials within regions only nanometers in size, enabling chemical and structural analysis that conventional diffraction may average out. It focuses an electron, X-ray, or neutron beam onto a nanoscale area and records how the beam scatters from the material’s atomic arrangement, producing patterns that reveal crystal phase, lattice spacing, orientation, and strain. In chemistry, nanodiffraction helps characterize nanoparticles, catalysts, thin films, and heterogeneous materials, linking local structure to reactivity and performance. Its ability to resolve structural variations supports studies of phase transformations, defects, and nanoscale design.
