Organic Chemistry Tests

Organic Chemistry Tests are qualitative and quantitative methods used to identify, characterize, or assess organic compounds by examining their chemical behavior. They work by targeting functional groups or structural features through reactions such as oxidation, substitution, complex formation, or precipitation, which may produce a distinctive color change, gas, odor, or solid product. Common tests help distinguish alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, alkenes, and other compound classes, often providing rapid evidence during laboratory analysis. In teaching and research, these tests connect molecular structure with observable reactivity and support compound identification, purity assessment, reaction monitoring, and interpretation of spectroscopic or instrumental results.

Glassware in Organic Chemistry There are standard pieces of glassware that are used in the organic chemistry lab. Beakers and Erlenmeyer flasks are typically used for simple mixing or to hold solvents but they should not be used to measure volume, unless only an approximate volume is needed. Glassware can be divided into the following categories: Volumetric Glassware – This includes glassware such as graduated cylinders, volumetric glass pipettes, and volumetric flasks. The purpose of these...

What is Organic Chemistry?

2023

Organic chemistry is the study of compounds of carbon called organic compounds. Organic compounds either originate from living organisms or are synthesized by chemists. A defining trait of these compounds is the presence of carbon as the principal element, which is bonded to other carbon atoms and other elements such as hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur. The existence of a wide array of organic molecules is a consequence of carbon atoms’ ability to form up to four strong bonds to other...

2019

Protocols are described for assessing the toxicity of chemistries to immature and adult mosquitoes for development as new classes of larvicides, adulticides and endectocides. The protocols enable high-throughput testing of multiple chemistries at single-point dose and subsequent evaluation via dose response assay to determine toxicity on contact or via ingestion.
