Qma Cartridge

A QMA cartridge is a strong anion-exchange solid-phase extraction device used to isolate and clean up negatively charged compounds in chemical samples. Its sorbent contains permanently charged quaternary ammonium groups that attract and retain anions as a sample passes through, while neutral or positively charged components are washed away; changing the solvent composition or ionic strength then releases the retained analytes. In analytical chemistry, QMA cartridges support sample preparation, matrix cleanup, and concentration before chromatographic or spectrometric analysis. Their selective retention improves measurement quality by reducing interfering substances and can help process complex environmental, biological, or pharmaceutical samples.

A Microfluidic Cartridge-Based Detection System for Allergen-Specific Immunoglobulin E

2025

This video demonstrates a protocol for detecting serum-specific immunoglobulin E using a microfluidic cartridge-based chemiluminescence system. Serum IgEs interact with distinct allergens immobilized in the reaction zone of the cartridge, which are subsequently detected with peroxidase-conjugated anti-IgE antibodies and a chemiluminescent substrate, allowing simultaneous detection of multiple allergen-specific IgEs.

We describe a protocol for filtration of water samples with a filter cartridge and extraction of environmental DNA (eDNA) without having to cut open the housing to remove the filter. This protocol is developed for metabarcoding eDNA from fishes, but is also applicable to eDNA from other organisms.

This article illustrates how to properly use the BioRad Helios Gene Gun to introduce plasmid DNA into onion epidermal cells and how to test for protein-protein interactions in onion cells based on the principle of Bimolecular Fluorescence Complementation...

Circulating miRNA Extraction: A Method to Isolate miRNA from Plasma Samples Via Organic Extraction and Small RNA Enrichment

2023

This video describes the extraction of circulating microRNA from plasma samples of colorectal cancer patients using organic extraction followed by glass-fiber column enrichment. miRNAs are stable in biological fluids such as serum and plasma, which renders them ideal circulating biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment decision-making and monitoring. This method will help identify new circulating biomarkers capable of predicting clinical outcomes in patients.

Duplex Digital PCR for Simultaneous Quantification of Dual Genetic Markers

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the duplex digital PCR (ddPCR) technique — a modification of the traditional PCR technique that is useful in detecting two different genetic markers simultaneously. A single PCR reaction is partitioned into nanoliter-sized emulsified droplets that are independently amplified, and the detection of differently colored fluorescence amplification signals from the fraction of droplets is used to compute the initial concentration of the target sequences.
