Contrast Injection

Contrast injection is the controlled delivery of contrast media into the bloodstream or a body cavity to make anatomical structures and physiological processes more visible during medical imaging. The injected agent changes how tissues interact with imaging energy: iodinated media increase X-ray attenuation in computed tomography and fluoroscopy, while gadolinium-based agents alter magnetic resonance signal; injection rate and timing help synchronize contrast with image acquisition. Contrast injection supports vascular imaging, tumor characterization, organ assessment, and image-guided procedures, improving diagnostic confidence and treatment planning. Appropriate patient screening, dosing, and monitoring help reduce risks such as allergic reactions, extravasation, or contrast-associated complications.

Novel therapeutic strategies in cardiac regenerative medicine require extensive and detailed studies in large preclinical animal models before they can be considered for use in humans. Here, we demonstrate a percutaneous contrast echocardiography-guided intramyocardial injection technique in rabbits, which is valuable for hypothesis testing the efficacy of such novel therapies.

Phase Contrast and Differential Interference Contrast Microscopy

2023

Phase-Contrast Microscopes In-phase-contrast microscopes, interference between light directly passing through a cell and light refracted by cellular components is used to create high-contrast, high-resolution images without staining. It is the oldest and simplest type of microscope that creates an image by altering the wavelengths of light rays passing through the specimen. Altered wavelength paths are created using an annular stop in the condenser. The annular stop produces a hollow cone of...
