Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a minimally invasive procedure that combines upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with fluoroscopic X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat disorders of the bile ducts and pancreatic duct. During ERCP, an endoscope is advanced to the duodenum, where the major papilla is cannulated and contrast medium is injected into the ducts for radiographic visualization; therapeutic tools can then remove stones, widen strictures, or place stents. Clinicians use ERCP primarily for biliary obstruction, bile leaks, and selected pancreatic disorders when intervention is needed. Its targeted treatment can relieve obstruction and guide further clinical management.

Source: Inal, M. A. et. al., Retrograde Tracing of Drosophila Embryonic Motor Neurons Using Lipophilic Fluorescent Dyes. J. Vis. Exp. (2020)This video demonstrates the method of retrograde labeling of Drosophila motor neurons using lipophilic dyes. The dye enters the axon, travels retrogradely, and labels the neurons green, allowing detailed visualization of their morphology and projections under a confocal microscope.

Source: Keefe, K. M., et al. Direct Injection of a Lentiviral Vector Highlights Multiple Motor Pathways in the Rat Spinal Cord. J. Vis. Exp. (2019).This video demonstrates the injection of a highly efficient retrograde transport (HiRet) viral vector into the rat spinal cord to trace neuronal pathways. The virus has glycoproteins for synaptic entry and a fluorescent protein coding gene. The needle is inserted into the spinal cord, and the virus suspension is administered at a controlled rate.

Langendorff Retrograde Heart Perfusion: An Ex Vivo Technique to Perfuse Isolated Mouse Heart

2025

In this video, we perform Langendorff retrograde perfusion of an isolated mouse heart. During the procedure, the cardiac activity of the heart is maintained by perfusing it retrogradely with a perfusion solution via the coronary arteries using a cannula inserted into the ascending aorta. The model is used to study the cardiac pathophysiology of the heart.
