Fairness

Fairness is the principle that people receive equitable treatment, opportunities, and consideration, especially when decisions affect health, rights, or access to resources. In clinical settings, fairness involves identifying how patient characteristics, social conditions, data quality, and decision rules may produce unequal outcomes, then evaluating and reducing unjustified differences in care, diagnosis, treatment, or research participation. Clinicians and researchers apply fairness principles when designing studies, developing clinical algorithms, allocating limited resources, and interpreting evidence across diverse populations. Attention to fairness can reveal hidden bias, improve trust, and support more consistent, transparent, and ethically responsible healthcare.

Classical fear conditioning paradigm was adapted for human participants in a fully immersive virtual reality setting. Using a discrimination paradigm, conditioned fear, cue and context memory retention, and extinction was measured with skin conductance response to dynamic virtual snakes and spiders (the conditioned stimuli) in two distinct virtual contexts.
