Standardized Care Delivery

Standardized care delivery is the structured use of consistent clinical protocols, workflows, and decision criteria to provide reliable patient care across providers and settings. It aligns assessment, diagnosis, treatment, documentation, and follow-up with evidence-based guidelines, while allowing defined adjustments for individual patient needs. In clinical practice, standardized care pathways and checklists can reduce unwarranted variation, clarify team responsibilities, and support timely communication across the care continuum. They also facilitate quality measurement, safety monitoring, staff training, and comparison of outcomes, making standardization an important foundation for improving care reliability while preserving appropriate clinical judgment.

We describe a model of hydrochloric acid-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in piglets receiving sedation with halogenated agents, isoflurane and sevoflurane, through a device used for inhaled intensive care sedation. This model can be used to investigate the biological mechanisms of halogenated agents on lung injury and repair.
