Node Variables

Node variables are unknown quantities assigned to nodes, or connected points, in an engineering system to describe its state and support mathematical analysis. In circuit analysis, a node voltage is defined relative to a reference node, and Kirchhoff’s current law combined with Ohm’s law produces equations whose solution determines the remaining voltages and branch currents. The same principle extends to numerical models, where nodal values can represent displacement, temperature, pressure, or other field quantities. Node variables simplify complex networks, enable systematic simulation, and provide the foundation for finite element methods, circuit design, and engineering optimization.

Source: Richard Glickman-Simon, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health and Community Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, MA The lymphatic system has two main functions: to return extracellular fluid back to the venous circulation and to expose antigenic substances to the immune system. As the collected fluid passes through lymphatic channels on its way back to the systemic circulation, it encounters multiple nodes consisting of highly concentrated clusters of...

Generation of lymph node/fat pad chimeras for the study of lymph node stromal cell origin is described. The method involves the isolation of lymph nodes from newborn mice and embryonic fat pads, the generation of chimeric lymph node-fat pads, and their transfer under the kidney capsule of a host mouse.

A technique for performing intravital microscopy of the inguinal lymph node (LN) is outlined. Such technique allows for real-time, in vivo study of the lymph node microvasculature and structure both during homeostasis and infection. This technique can be adapted to cell trafficking studies and to other lymph node sites.
