Optical Circulator

An optical circulator is a nonreciprocal photonic device that directs light entering one port to the next port in sequence, making it essential for controlling signals in fiber-optic systems. It uses magneto-optic components, typically a Faraday rotator and polarization-selective elements, to break reciprocity so that light follows different paths depending on its direction of travel. Optical circulators separate transmitted and received signals, route data between network components, and help protect lasers from reflected light. They support wavelength-division multiplexing, optical sensing, and bidirectional communication while improving signal management and system reliability in telecommunications and engineering research.

Optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) is an emerging technology capable of imaging optical absorption contrasts in vivo with cellular resolution and sensitivity. Here, we provide a visualized instruction on the experimental protocols of OR-PAM, including system configuration, system alignment, typical in vivo experimental procedures, and functional imaging schemes.

Fetal Circulation

Fetal circulation is a unique system that facilitates the exchange of gases, nutrients, and waste products between the developing fetus and the mother. This intricate process takes place through a special organ called the placenta. Two umbilical arteries transport blood from the fetus to the placenta. At the placenta, the blood absorbs oxygen and nutrients while simultaneously eliminating waste products. This oxygen-enriched and nutrient-rich blood then returns to the fetus through one...

Coronary Circulation

The heart, an organ critical to survival, gets nourishment not from the blood it pumps but from a separate circulation system known as coronary circulation. This is the shortest circulation in the body and is responsible for supplying the heart with the nutrients it needs to function effectively. Coronary circulation begins at the base of the aorta, where two main arteries arise—the left and right coronary arteries. These arteries encircle the heart in the coronary sulcus and supply the...
