Virtual Laboratory Practice

Virtual laboratory practice is the use of digital environments to perform, observe, and interpret laboratory activities without relying solely on a physical laboratory, making hands-on concepts more accessible in engineering education and research. It typically uses computer simulations, interactive models, or remote interfaces that represent experimental equipment, allowing users to adjust parameters, run procedures, collect data, and evaluate results under controlled conditions. This approach supports repeated practice, safer investigation of complex or costly systems, and flexible learning beyond scheduled laboratory sessions. It can also complement physical experiments by strengthening experimental design, data analysis, troubleshooting, and preparation for professional engineering work.

Making Solutions in the Laboratory

2023

The ability to successfully make solutions is a basic laboratory skill performed in virtually all biological and chemical experiments. A solution is a homogenous mixture of solute dissolved in bulk liquid known as the solvent. Solutions can be described by their solute concentration, a measure of how much solute is present per unit of solution. In this video, a step-by-step procedure for how to make a water-based, or aqueous, solution for biological applications is presented. The video...
