Research Protocol

A research protocol is a structured plan that defines how a scientific study will be designed, conducted, documented, and evaluated, helping researchers produce reliable and reproducible results. It specifies the research question, sampling strategy, materials, procedures, controls, data-collection methods, and analysis criteria before work begins. In environmental research, protocols guide the consistent assessment of air, water, soil, biodiversity, and ecological processes across locations or time periods while reducing bias and procedural variation. Well-designed protocols strengthen data quality, support comparison among studies, improve transparency, and provide a practical foundation for monitoring environmental change and informing conservation or management decisions.

This video illustrates the general techniques used to rear Anopheles gambiae in the laboratory. The methods for caring for laboratory mosquitoes are demonstrated through all stages of the organism's life cycle from larvae to pupae to blood-feeding adults.

Parabiosis in Mice: A Detailed Protocol

Parabiotic joining of two organisms leads to the development of a shared circulatory system. In this protocol, we describe the surgical steps to form a parabiotic connection between a wild-type mouse and a constitutive GFP-expressing mouse.

Neutrophil Isolation Protocol

Neutrophils are among the first cells to arrive on the site of inflammatory immune response, and their functions and mechanisms have been studied extensively in vitro. We demonstrate a standard density gradient separation method to isolate human neutrophils from whole blood using commercially available separation media.
