Ureteral Implantation

Ureteral implantation is a surgical procedure that connects a ureter to the bladder or another urinary structure to restore the passage of urine. During implantation, the ureter is positioned and secured so urine can drain while the connection minimizes leakage and, when a submucosal tunnel is created, helps limit backward flow from the bladder. The procedure is used in urinary reconstruction and kidney transplantation, where reliable drainage supports graft function. Because infection, urinary leaks, obstruction, and vesicoureteral reflux can compromise outcomes, understanding ureteral implantation is important in immunology and infection research, particularly for managing complications in immunosuppressed patients.

The murine model of irreversible unilateral ureteric obstruction (UUO) is presented together with the model of reversible UUO in which the ureteric obstruction is relieved by anastomosis of the severed ureter into the bladder. These models enable the study of renal inflammation and scarring as well as tissue remodeling.

A New Single Chamber Implantable Defibrillator with Atrial Sensing: A Practical Demonstration of Sensing and Ease of Implantation

2012

Dual-chamber implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) may improve detection of atrial fibrillation as well as differentiation of tachycardias. However, this advantage is undermined by complications associated with the second electrode, which is required in conventional dual chamber devices. Therefore, BIOTRONIK has developed a new electrode called the LinoxSMART S DX that, when used in conjunction with the Lumax DX ICD, offers dual-chamber detection without the risks associated with the...

Microbead Implantation in the Zebrafish Embryo

2015

The zebrafish is an excellent model system for genetic and developmental studies. Bead implantation is a valuable tissue manipulation technique that can be used to interrogate developmental mechanisms by introducing alterations in local cellular environments. This protocol describes how to perform microbead implantation in the zebrafish embryo.
