Anticancer Activity

Anticancer activity is the ability of a substance, treatment, or biological intervention to inhibit, eliminate, or control cancer cells while limiting harm to normal tissues. It can act by blocking cell proliferation, inducing programmed cell death, disrupting DNA replication, or interfering with signals that support tumor growth and survival. In medicine, researchers evaluate anticancer activity in cultured cells, animal models, and clinical studies to assess potential therapies, including small-molecule drugs, biologics, and combination treatments. These investigations help identify effective treatment strategies, clarify mechanisms of response and resistance, and support the development of more selective approaches to cancer prevention and care.

An Assay To Evaluate the Anticancer Effects of Lactobacillus Cell-Free Supernatant

2025

This video demonstrates an in vitro assay to study the anticancer effects of Lactobacillus cell-free supernatant (LCFS). Upon exposing colorectal cancer spheroids to varying doses of LCFS, the interaction with the bacterial metabolites in LCFS induces apoptosis in the cancer cells, disrupting the spheroid structure and leading to cell death in a dose-dependent manner.

Anticancer Efficacy of Photodynamic Therapy with Lung Cancer-Targeted Nanoparticles

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an alternative choice for lung cancer treatment. To increase the therapeutic effect of PDT, lung cancer-targeted nanoparticles combined with chemotherapy were developed. Both in vitro and in vivo anticancer efficacies of PDT with prepared nanoparticles were evaluated.

Colony Formation Assay: Assessing the Efficacy of Anticancer Agents on Colony-Forming Lung Cancer Cells

2023

This video describes the colony formation assay, which helps determine lung cancer cells' ability to proliferate indefinitely and form individual colonies. We can analyze the effect of an anticancer agent on the colony-forming cells by analyzing the changes in the number and/or size of the resulting colonies.
