Median Nerve Visualization

Median nerve visualization is the use of medical imaging to identify and assess the median nerve, supporting evaluation of its anatomy, continuity, and surrounding structures. In ultrasound, a high-frequency transducer produces real-time images in which the nerve appears as a fascicular structure, while transverse and longitudinal scanning tracks its course through the forearm and wrist; dynamic movement and cross-sectional area can also provide useful information. This technique helps clinicians investigate carpal tunnel syndrome, traumatic nerve injury, and compressive neuropathies, and can guide regional anesthesia, injections, or surgical planning. Accurate visualization improves diagnostic confidence and procedural safety.

Median

Besides mean, the median is a widely used measure of central tendency. Typically, median is defined as the central or middle value of a data set, measured by arranging the data elements in an increasing or decreasing order. Since this middle value is not affected by the precise numerical values of the outliers or fluctuations, it is insensitive to them. Hence, in cases where a data set may have outliers or the extreme values are not known, the median is a better measure of the central tendency...

Visualization of Mitochondria within Intraepidermal Nerve Fibers

Source: Hamid, H. S., et al. Three-dimensional Imaging and Analysis of Mitochondria within Human Intraepidermal Nerve Fibers. J. Vis. Exp. (2017) This video demonstrates the method for visualizing nerve-specific mitochondria using three-dimensional imaging. It outlines the process of acquiring sequential scans of pre-labeled intraepidermal nerve fibers and generating 3D surface images to isolate and display mitochondria in relation to nerve structures.

Toluidine Blue Staining of Peripheral Nerve Sections: A Technique to Stain Myelinated Nerve Fibers For Peripheral Nerve Structure Visualization

This video demonstrates the staining technique of resin-embedded, osmium tetroxide-treated rat peripheral nerve sections using toluidine blue. The stained nerve sections help visualize the fine structures of peripheral nerves.

Sign Test for Median of Single Population

2025

In general, the sign test serves as a nonparametric method to test hypotheses about the median of a single population when the data does not follow a known distribution. This simplicity makes it particularly useful for small sample sizes or when the assumptions of parametric tests cannot be met. The process begins with identifying a null hypothesis, typically stating that the population median equals a specific value. The alternative hypothesis could be that the median is either not equal to,...
