Mite Control Measures

Mite control measures are strategies used to reduce or eliminate mites that affect human health, including parasitic species that cause infestation and household species that contribute to allergic disease. Effective control combines accurate identification with measures that interrupt exposure and the mite life cycle, such as treating affected skin or hosts, cleaning bedding and clothing, and reducing environmental reservoirs. In clinical medicine, topical or systemic acaricides may kill mites directly, while coordinated treatment and follow-up help limit reinfestation and transmission. These measures support symptom relief, infection control, and prevention, but their selection should reflect the mite species, infestation site, patient factors, and local guidance.

Attention control comprises enhancement of target signals and attenuation of distractor signals. We describe an approach to measure separately but concurrently, the neurophysiology of attending and ignoring in sustained intermodal attention, utilizing a passive control condition during which neither process is continuously engaged.

Optimized sampling protocols and the development of new wipe materials can be facilitated by standardized measurements of collection efficiency from wipe-sampling. Our approach for sampling trace explosives uses an automated device to control speed, force, and distance during wipe-sampling followed by extraction of collected explosives.
