Ovarian Endometriotic Cysts

Ovarian endometriotic cysts, also called endometriomas or “chocolate cysts,” are cystic lesions formed when endometriosis develops within an ovary, making them important causes of pelvic pain, infertility, and adnexal masses. Ectopic endometrial-like tissue responds to hormonal cycling, undergoes repeated bleeding and inflammation, and gradually accumulates thick, brown blood within the cyst. In medicine, clinicians evaluate these lesions using symptoms, pelvic examination, and imaging, particularly transvaginal ultrasound, which can reveal characteristic internal echoes. Management may include observation, hormonal therapy, or laparoscopic surgery, with decisions shaped by pain, cyst size, ovarian reserve, fertility plans, and the risk of recurrence.

Microscopic Cyst Resection for the Treatment of Patients Diagnosed with Epididymal Cyst

2023

Here, we present a protocol to treat patients diagnosed with an epididymal cyst using microscopic cyst resection. Based on microscopic manipulation, a largely improved visualization of the subtle tissue structures of the epididymis was obtained, so the cyst could be clearly dissected apart and completely removed intact.

Obtaining Primary Ovarian Cancer Cells from Solid Specimens: A Method to Culture Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Cells from Ovarian Tumor Specimens

2023

In this video, we describe a method for isolating and characterizing primary ovarian cancer cells from solid ovarian tumor tissue specimens. The epithelial cancer cells obtained using this protocol are suitable for understanding the processes that may lead to ovarian cancer initiation and development.

An Orthotopic Model of Serous Ovarian Cancer in Immunocompetent Mice for in vivo Tumor Imaging and Monitoring of Tumor Immune Responses

To study in vivo tumor growth and tumor microenvironment, we used a syngeneic and orthotopic mouse model of ovarian cancer in immunocompetent animals. We transduced a mouse tumor cell line (MOV1) with Katushka fluorescent protein (MOV1KAT) and here we show its orthotopic implantation in ovary and in vivo imaging.

Cited by 7 •

2016

We describe an ovarian fad pad transplantation assay suitable for studies of normal and transformed epithelia of the female reproductive tract. The mouse fat pad allows transplantation of large tissue fragments, is easily accessible for surgery and imaging, and provides the most favorable native environment for tissues of Müllerian origin.

Ovarian Fat Pad Transplantation Assay: An In Vivo Technique to Introduce Cells into Ovarian Fat Pad in Mouse Models

2023

In this video, we demonstrate an assay for transplantation of experimental cells and tissue fragments into the mouse ovarian fat pad. This method can be used to monitor cell regeneration and tumor transformation via non-invasive techniques.
