Silicon Carbide Abrasive

Silicon carbide abrasive is a hard, synthetic abrasive material used to cut, grind, sand, or polish surfaces, including materials relevant to medical-device manufacturing and laboratory preparation. Its effectiveness comes from silicon carbide’s high hardness and sharp, fracture-prone grains: under pressure, individual particles remove material by microcutting and controlled abrasion, while worn grains expose new cutting edges. In medicine, this abrasive supports the finishing of hard device components, preparation of specimens or materials for examination, and surface conditioning before subsequent processing. Consistent abrasive grade and process control help achieve the required dimensional accuracy, smoothness, and reproducibility.

Abrasion Resistance of Concrete

2024

Abrasion resistance is an essential characteristic of concrete that determines its durability and longevity under various wear conditions. Concrete surfaces are vulnerable to different types of abrasion. For instance, surfaces may wear down due to the constant movement of vehicles or be eroded by solids carried in water, as seen in concrete canal linings. Specific tests are conducted to measure the abrasion resistance of concrete. One such test is the revolving disc test, where three plates...

A method called negative additive manufacturing is used to produce near fully dense complex shaped boron carbide parts of various length scales. This technique is possible via the formulation of a novel suspension involving resorcinol-formaldehyde as a unique gelling agent that leaves behind a homogenous carbon sintering aid after pyrolysis.
