Surgical Field Capture

Surgical field capture is the systematic recording of an operative field through photographs or video, creating a visual record of procedures, anatomy, and surgical technique. Cameras or imaging devices are positioned to view the sterile field while maintaining surgical access, and the resulting images can be stored, reviewed, and linked to procedural documentation. In medicine, this approach supports surgical education, case review, communication among care teams, and objective documentation of intraoperative findings. Standardized capture methods may also contribute to telemedicine, quality improvement, and research by enabling comparison of techniques and outcomes while requiring careful attention to patient privacy and data security.

A technique for performing quantitative three-dimensional (3D) imaging for a range of fluid flows is presented. Using concepts from the area of Light Field Imaging, we reconstruct 3D volumes from arrays of images. Our 3D results span a broad range including velocity fields and multi-phase bubble size distributions.
