Gcamp3.0

GCaMP3.0 is a genetically encoded fluorescent calcium indicator that reports changes in intracellular calcium, an important signal of neuronal activity. Built from green fluorescent protein, calmodulin, and an M13 peptide, it brightens when calcium binds calmodulin and induces a conformational change that enhances fluorescence. Delivered through genetic expression, GCaMP3.0 enables researchers to monitor activity in individual neurons, populations, and neural circuits using fluorescence microscopy. Its compatibility with live-cell and in vivo imaging supports studies of neuronal communication, sensory processing, behavior, and circuit dynamics, while providing a noninvasive alternative to repeated electrical recordings in many experimental settings.
