Amplitude And Frequency

Amplitude and frequency are fundamental properties of waves and oscillations that describe their size and rate, respectively. Amplitude measures the maximum displacement from an equilibrium position, while frequency specifies how many complete cycles occur per unit time and is related to period by f = 1/T. Together, these quantities characterize mechanical, sound, electromagnetic, and other periodic phenomena: amplitude often relates to energy or signal intensity, whereas frequency influences features such as sound pitch and resonant behavior. Measuring and comparing amplitude and frequency helps physicists analyze wave propagation, interpret signals, model oscillating systems, and design technologies including communications equipment, sensors, and imaging instruments.

Pulse amplitude and quality

2024

Pulse amplitude is a crucial indicator of cardiac health because it provides valuable insights into the strength of left ventricular contractions and the overall uniformity of blood circulation within the vasculature. The strength of the pulse is directly related to the force with which the heart contracts and the volume of blood being pumped. A weak or absent pulse may indicate reduced cardiac output or poor left ventricular contraction, which can be signs of cardiovascular dysfunction or...

We present a method for achieving sub-nanometer resolution images with amplitude-modulation (tapping mode) atomic force microscopy in liquid. The method is demonstrated on commercial atomic force microscopes. We explain the rationale behind our choices of parameters and suggest strategies for resolution optimization.

Recapitulation of an Ion Channel IV Curve Using Frequency Components

2011

There are technical obstacles to measuring current flux through multiple ion channels simultaneously, and later discerning what portion of the transmembrane current is due to each channel type. To address this need, this method presents a way to generate the IV curve of individual channel types using specific frequency components.

We describe the generation of far-infrared radiation using an optically pumped molecular laser along with the measurement of their frequencies with heterodyne techniques. The experimental system and techniques are demonstrated using difluoromethane (CH2F2) as the laser medium whose results include three new laser emissions and eight measured laser frequencies.
