Automated Dispenser

An automated dispenser is a programmable instrument that delivers measured volumes of liquids, supporting accurate and reproducible laboratory workflows. It uses calibrated pumps, valves, or robotic pipetting systems to aspirate and dispense reagents according to specified volumes, destinations, and timing, often across microplates or other vessels. In biochemistry, automated dispensers prepare reaction mixtures, perform serial dilutions, and support high-throughput assays such as enzyme activity and binding studies. By reducing manual handling, operator variability, and processing time, these systems improve experimental consistency, conserve reagents, and enable the systematic analysis of large sample sets.

Peptide adsorption to plasticware during traditional tip-based serial dilutions can significantly impact potency determination and confound the understanding of structure-activity relationships used for lead identification and lead optimization phases of drug discovery. Here methods for automated acoustic non-contact serial dilution of peptide samples are described.

Digital Microfluidics is a technique characterized by the manipulation of discrete droplets (~nL - mL) on an array of electrodes by the application of electrical fields. It is well-suited for carrying out rapid, sequential, miniaturized automated biochemical assays. Here, we report a platform capable of automating several proteomic processing steps.
