Airway Securing

Airway securing is the set of clinical techniques used to establish and maintain a patent airway so oxygen can reach the lungs and carbon dioxide can be removed. It works by relieving obstruction through positioning, suction, or airway adjuncts and, when necessary, placing an endotracheal tube that provides a protected path for ventilation; clinicians confirm placement by assessing chest movement, breath sounds, and exhaled carbon dioxide. In biology and medicine, these methods support patients whose airway reflexes or breathing are compromised, including cases involving trauma, anesthesia, or respiratory failure. Proper airway securing reduces hypoxia and enables controlled ventilation during emergency and critical care.
