Current Amplitude

Current amplitude is the maximum magnitude of an electric current as it varies with time, making it a key measure of signal strength and charge flow in physics. For a sinusoidal alternating current, the instantaneous current follows I(t) = I₀ sin(ωt + φ), where I₀ is the current amplitude, ω is angular frequency, and φ is phase. In AC circuits, amplitude helps determine the root-mean-square current, electrical power, heating, and component stress. Measuring and controlling current amplitude is therefore essential in circuit analysis, power transmission, electronics, electromagnetic experiments, and the interpretation of time-dependent electrical signals.

Pulse amplitude and quality

2024

Pulse amplitude is a crucial indicator of cardiac health because it provides valuable insights into the strength of left ventricular contractions and the overall uniformity of blood circulation within the vasculature. The strength of the pulse is directly related to the force with which the heart contracts and the volume of blood being pumped. A weak or absent pulse may indicate reduced cardiac output or poor left ventricular contraction, which can be signs of cardiovascular dysfunction or...

This video demonstrates the technique for recording synaptic currents from a synaptic bouton at the Drosophila larva's neuromuscular junction. This technique enables monitoring the activity of a single synaptic bouton, which is important for the study of mutant fly lines with enhanced spontaneous or asynchronous synaptic activity.

2013

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that has shown initial therapeutic effects in several neurological conditions. The main mechanism underlying these therapeutic effects is the modulation of cortical excitability. Therefore, online monitoring of cortical excitability would help guide stimulation parameters and optimize its therapeutic effects. In the present article we review the use of a novel device that combines simultaneous tDCS and...

We present a method for achieving sub-nanometer resolution images with amplitude-modulation (tapping mode) atomic force microscopy in liquid. The method is demonstrated on commercial atomic force microscopes. We explain the rationale behind our choices of parameters and suggest strategies for resolution optimization.
