Nitrous Oxide Detection

Nitrous oxide detection is the measurement of nitrous oxide (N₂O) in air or other gases, supporting environmental monitoring, industrial control, and atmospheric research. Many detectors use infrared spectroscopy, in which N₂O molecules absorb specific wavelengths as their molecular bonds vibrate; the strength of this absorption indicates the gas concentration. Instruments may analyze transmitted or emitted infrared radiation and apply calibration models to distinguish N₂O from other gases. Reliable detection helps quantify agricultural and industrial emissions, assess air quality, verify pollution-control measures, and improve understanding of N₂O as a long-lived greenhouse gas and ozone-depleting substance.

Simultaneous magnetoencephalography and electroencephalography provides a useful tool to search for common and distinct macro-scale mechanisms of reductions in consciousness induced by different anesthetics. This paper illustrates the empirical methods underlying the recording of such data from healthy humans during N-Methyl-D-Aspartate-(NMDA)-receptor-antagonist-based anesthesia during inhalation of nitrous oxide and xenon.

Microwave technology enables extremely fast synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles for atherosclerosis plaque characterization. The use of an aminobisphosphonate in the external side of the nanoparticle provides a fast accumulation in the atherosclerotic area.

An Assay to Detect Oxidative Burst in Arabidopsis Leaf Discs upon Immune Elicitation

2025

This video demonstrates an assay to measure oxidative burst in Arabidopsis leaves upon immune elicitation. Leaf discs, cut from plant leaves, are incubated with bacterial peptides functioning as microbe-associated molecular patterns or MAMPs. Upon detection of the MAMPs, plant cells induce the production of extracellular ROS, which is detected using a chemiluminescence assay.
