Misattribution of arousal occurs when we incorrectly interpret the source of our psychological arousal. According to the two-factor theory of emotion, feelings are constructed products vulnerable to misinterpretation. For example, a person crossing a suspension bridge may experience arousal from the physical challenge but attribute it to attraction toward someone nearby, leading to inaccurate conclusions about their emotional state.
