N-acyltransferase enzymes catalyze the acylation of the alpha-amino acid by the acyl CoA intermediate, producing a stable conjugate for excretion and elimination.

Both reactions enhance drug water solubility and promote excretion, but sulfation uses PAPS coenzyme while glucuronidation uses UDP-glucuronic acid.
