Glow Discharge

Glow discharge is a low-temperature plasma produced when an electrical potential ionizes a gas, creating a sustained luminous discharge that enables controlled gas-phase chemistry. In a reduced-pressure chamber, electrons accelerated by the electric field collide with gas molecules, generating ions, additional electrons, and excited species; collisions and recombination produce characteristic light while charged particles sustain the discharge. In biology, glow-discharge treatment can clean and modify material surfaces, increase wettability and cell or biomolecule adhesion, and support sterilization or preparation of substrates for culture and microscopy. Its tunable conditions make it useful for studying plasma interactions with biological materials and developing biomedical devices.

We present a rapid and inexpensive screening method for identifying transcriptional regulators using high-throughput robotic transfections and a homemade dual-glow luciferase assay. This protocol rapidly generates direct side-by-side functional data for thousands of genes and is easily modifiable to target any gene of interest.

RC Circuits: Discharging A Capacitor

2025

One of the applications of an RC circuit is the relaxation oscillator. The relaxation oscillator comprises a voltage source, a capacitor, a resistor, and a neon lamp. The lamp acts like an open circuit (infinite resistance) until the potential difference across the neon lamp reaches a specific voltage. At that voltage, the lamp acts like a short circuit (zero resistance), and the capacitor discharges through the neon lamp and produces light. Once the capacitor is fully discharged through the...

Effects of Different Connection Modes of Electroacupuncture on Electrocardiogram and Nerve Discharge in Rats

2025

Until now, there is no uniform method for electroacupuncture connection in clinical and fundamental research. We present a protocol that attempted to compare the effects of different connection methods on electrocardiogram (ECG) and neural discharge in rats to explore the most appropriate way to connect the electroacupuncture instrument.
