Murine Ovarian Surface

The murine ovarian surface is the thin outer cellular layer covering the mouse ovary, providing an accessible interface for studying ovarian tissue injury, repair, and cancer-related changes. During ovulation, localized tissue disruption triggers surface-cell proliferation, migration, and remodeling to restore coverage, processes that can influence how abnormal cells emerge and persist. In cancer research, this model supports genetic manipulation, lineage tracing, and microscopic analysis of ovarian surface epithelium within its native tissue environment. It helps researchers investigate early tumor development, interactions with surrounding stroma, and potential mechanisms underlying epithelial ovarian cancer progression and prevention.

A Method to Induce Ocular Surface Inflammation in a Murine Model

2025

This video demonstrates a method to induce ocular surface inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction in a murine model. Stimulation of the mouse's immune system using an immunogen and later restimulation with the same immunogen promotes ocular surface inflammation, which causes plugging of meibomian gland secretion through neutrophil-produced aggNETs and leads to dry eye disease.

Orthotopic Inoculation of Ovarian Cancer Cells into Murine Ovary: A Procedure to Establish an Ovarian Cancer Mouse Model to Study Peritoneal Dissemination of Cells

2023

This video describes the protocol for creating a murine experimental model to study tumor development and peritoneal metastasis. This ovarian cancer model is generated by the orthotopic inoculation of human epithelial ovarian cancer cells into the ovaries of a female mouse.

Ovarian cancer metastasis is characterized by numerous diffuse intra-peritoneal lesions, such that accurate visual quantitation of tumor burden is challenging. Herein we describe a method for in situ and ex vivo quantitation of metastatic tumor burden using red fluorescent protein (RFP)-labeled tumor cells and optical imaging.

Obtaining Primary Ovarian Cancer Cells from Solid Specimens: A Method to Culture Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Cells from Ovarian Tumor Specimens

2023

In this video, we describe a method for isolating and characterizing primary ovarian cancer cells from solid ovarian tumor tissue specimens. The epithelial cancer cells obtained using this protocol are suitable for understanding the processes that may lead to ovarian cancer initiation and development.
