Chloroform Bromoform

Chloroform and bromoform are halogenated organic compounds, specifically trihalomethanes in which three hydrogen atoms of methane are replaced by chlorine or bromine. Their molecular structures give them distinctive physical properties and reactivity, and both can form through the haloform reaction, in which methyl ketones undergo repeated alpha-halogenation followed by base-promoted cleavage to produce a trihalomethane and a carboxylate. They may also arise as disinfection by-products when chlorine or bromine reacts with natural organic matter in water. Chemists use these compounds as solvents and models for studying halogenated molecular behavior, while their toxicity and environmental occurrence require careful monitoring and controlled handling.

2025

The video demonstrates the analysis of the palmitoylation state of cell membrane proteins isolated from mouse brain tissue. The process involves exposing the non-palmitoylated cysteines and blocking them, then using a polymer that binds to the palmitoylated cysteines, aiding in assessing the palmitoylation state of the isolated proteins.
