Bristol Stool Form Scale

The Bristol Stool Form Scale is a clinical classification system that describes stool shape and consistency using seven types, helping standardize the assessment of bowel habits. Its categories range from hard, separate lumps to watery liquid and reflect how stool changes as it moves through the intestine, with faster transit generally producing looser forms and slower transit producing harder stools. Clinicians use the scale to identify patterns associated with constipation or diarrhea, document symptoms, and monitor responses to dietary, behavioral, or medical interventions. It also provides a simple shared language for patient-reported outcomes in clinical care and gastrointestinal research.

2016

Here, we fabricate 3D polymeric micro/nano structures in which both the shape and the molecular alignment can be engineered with nanometer scale accuracy by the use of direct laser writing. Light induced deformation of several types of liquid crystalline elastomer microstructures can be controlled in the microscopic scale.

A One-Step RT-PCR assay for detection and genogroup identification of Norovirus isolates from children’s stools, that utilizes primers and TaqMan probes specific to the open reading frame 1 (ORF1)-ORF2 junction region, the most conserved region of the Norovirus genome is described. A non-commercial, cost-effective RNA extraction method is detailed.

Stool Microbial DNA Isolation: Studying the Effect of Environmental Enrichment on Microbiome Diversity in Murine Tumor Model

2023

This video describes DNA isolation protocol from stool samples of colon tumor-bearing mice. The extracted DNA is amplified using PCR, and the product is further cleaned using a magnetic beads-based approach. This method can be used to determine the effect of environmental enrichment on colon microbiota and animal mortality.
