Ceramic Resin Slurry

Ceramic resin slurry is a suspension of fine ceramic particles in a liquid resin, formulated for shaping complex components through additive manufacturing. In processes such as vat photopolymerization, light selectively cures the resin to bind particles layer by layer, producing a fragile “green” part that is subsequently debound and sintered to remove organic material and densify the ceramic. This approach enables engineering researchers to produce intricate geometries, small features, and customized components from advanced ceramics while reducing the need for traditional molds. Final performance depends on particle loading, slurry stability, curing behavior, and shrinkage during sintering.

Source: Schaeffer, J. W., Chandler, et al. Detection of Viruses from Bioaerosols Using Anion Exchange Resin. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the detection of viruses from bioaerosols using an anion exchange resin. A liquid impinger containing the resin is used to capture viruses from the air. The resin is collected and treated with a virus lysis buffer containing carrier RNA. The lysate is transferred to a microcentrifuge tube for viral RNA isolation, followed by qRT-PCR to amplify...
