Adventitious Shoot Formation

Adventitious shoot formation is the development of new plant shoots from tissues that do not normally produce shoots, such as leaves, stems, roots, or callus, and is important for plant regeneration and propagation. In tissue culture, an explant is maintained under controlled environmental conditions and exposed to plant growth regulators; the balance between cytokinins and auxins can redirect cell division and differentiation toward shoot organogenesis. This process supports clonal multiplication, recovery of plants from transformed or stressed tissues, conservation of valuable genotypes, and research on plant development and environmental adaptation.

Primary and Secondary Growth in Roots and Shoots

2026

Vascular plants, which account for over 90% of the Earth’s vegetation, all undergo primary growth—which lengthens roots and shoots. Many land plants, notably woody plants, also undergo secondary growth—which thickens roots and shoots.Primary and secondary growth can occur simultaneously in a plant. While primary growth occurs in newer plant regions, secondary growth transpires in regions that have completed primary growth. There are overlaps and distinctions between root growth and shoot growth.

Deep Fluorescence Observation in Rice Shoots via Clearing Technology

2022

The present protocol describes a clearing technique for rice shoots, which are difficult to prepare for internal structural observations owing to the hard, thick, or layered nature of the tissues. This method facilitates continuous and deep fluorescence observations, even in adult rice plants.

Solution Formation

2020

There is no one solvent that can dissolve every type of solute. Some substances that readily dissolve in a certain solvent might be insoluble in a different solvent. A simple way to predict which substances dissolve in which solvent is the phrase "like dissolves like". This means that polar substances, such as salt and sugar, dissolve in a polar substance like water. In contrast, non-polar substances are more soluble in non-polar solvents such as carbon tetrachloride. This selective solubility...

Standard Enthalpy of Formation

2020

Enthalpy changes are typically tabulated for reactions in which both the reactants and products are at the same conditions. A standard state is a commonly accepted set of conditions used as a reference point for the determination of properties under other different conditions. For chemists, the IUPAC standard state refers to materials under a pressure of 1 bar and solutions at 1 M and does not specify a temperature. Many thermochemical tables list values with a standard state of 1 atm. Because...
