Gastric Wall Margin

Gastric wall margin is the boundary between a resected portion of the stomach and the surrounding tissue, assessed to determine whether a lesion has been completely removed. In pathology, the excised specimen is oriented, sectioned, and examined microscopically to identify tumor or abnormal cells at or near the cut edge; margins are generally described as involved or clear according to their relationship to the lesion. Margin assessment supports staging, treatment planning, and evaluation of local disease control in gastric cancer and other gastric lesions. It can guide additional surgery, endoscopic management, or follow-up when disease extends to the resection boundary.
