Plasma Storage

Plasma storage is the controlled preservation of blood plasma, the liquid component containing water, proteins, electrolytes, antibodies, and coagulation factors, for later clinical use. After separation from whole blood or collection by apheresis, plasma is rapidly frozen and maintained at regulated low temperatures to slow enzymatic degradation and preserve biologically active clotting proteins; it is thawed under controlled conditions before administration. Proper storage supports transfusion medicine, including treatment of multiple coagulation-factor deficiencies, liver-related coagulopathy, and massive blood loss, while also enabling plasma exchange and reliable inventory management. Temperature monitoring and validated handling procedures are essential for product safety and effectiveness.

A schema is a mental framework that helps individuals organize and interpret information. Schemata, formed from previous experiences, influence how we process new information: how we encode it, the inferences we make, and how we retrieve it. For instance, a schema for what a typical classroom looks like might include desks, a teacher's desk, a whiteboard, and students in such an environment. This expectation helps us quickly understand and navigate new classrooms without needing to analyze each...

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Taslima A. Zaman, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA While the use of various chemicals in experimental research is essential, it is also important to safely store and maintain them as a part of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program. The properties of chemicals and their reactivity vary broadly and if chemicals are not managed, stored, and labeled properly, they can have harmful or even destructive consequences such as toxic fume...
