Glass Micro-fibers

Glass micro-fibers are slender, micron-scale filaments made by drawing glass, combining low mass, chemical stability, and tunable optical and surface properties. When formed with an appropriate refractive-index structure, they guide light through total internal reflection, while their surfaces can be coated or functionalized to interact with biological environments. In neuroscience, these properties support compact optical interfaces for neural stimulation and imaging, as well as engineered substrates for studying cell adhesion and neurite growth. Their small dimensions can reduce spatial disruption and enable localized measurements, making glass micro-fibers useful for developing neural probes, tissue models, and minimally invasive research tools.

The Looking Glass Self

2025

The concept of the looking-glass self describes how an individual's self-concept is shaped by their perception of how others see them. This psychological theory, first introduced by sociologist Charles Horton Cooley in 1902, posits that self-identity emerges in a social context and is influenced by the judgments—real or imagined—of others.Research suggests that individuals frequently overestimate how positively others perceive them. This is particularly evident in physical self-perception,...

We describe a technique for inscribing identical fiber Bragg gratings into each core of a multicore fiber. This is achieved by introducing an additional surface into the optical path to mitigate lensing by the curved surface of the fiber cladding.
