Copd Treatment

COPD treatment is a coordinated approach to reducing airflow limitation, relieving symptoms, and preventing exacerbations in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Pharmacological therapy commonly uses bronchodilators, including beta2-agonists and muscarinic antagonists, to relax airway smooth muscle and improve airflow, while inhaled corticosteroids can reduce airway inflammation in selected patients. Treatment plans may also include combination inhalers, vaccines, pulmonary rehabilitation, and smoking cessation support according to disease severity and exacerbation risk. Appropriate therapy can improve exercise tolerance and quality of life while reducing hospitalizations, making medication selection, inhaler technique, and adherence important areas of pharmacological care.

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...
