Dpp-4 Inhibitors

DPP-4 inhibitors are a class of oral antihyperglycemic medicines that improve blood glucose regulation, primarily in people with type 2 diabetes. They block dipeptidyl peptidase-4, an enzyme that normally degrades the incretin hormones GLP-1 and GIP; preserving these hormones enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and reduces glucagon release after meals. Because their effects depend largely on elevated glucose levels, DPP-4 inhibitors generally produce a low risk of hypoglycemia and are weight neutral. Pharmacology studies examine their mechanisms, metabolism, dosing, drug interactions, and clinical use, including combination therapy when glycemic control remains inadequate.

Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 Inhibitors

2024

Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) is a serine protease widely distributed in the body. It's involved in the inactivation of GLP-1 and GIP hormones, which are crucial for insulin regulation. DPP-4 inhibitors, such as sitagliptin (Januvia), saxagliptin (Onglyza), linagliptin (Tradjenta), alogliptin (Nesina), and vildagliptin (Galvus), help increase the proportion of active GLP-1, enhancing insulin secretion. These inhibitors work by competitively binding to DPP-4. This binding causes a significant...

The timing of exposure to ligands may impact their developmental consequences. Here we show how to image release of a Drosophila bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) called Dpp from cells of the wing disc.

Eukaryotic Transcription Inhibitors

2020

Certain biochemical processes, such as embryonic development and cell growth regulation, depend on the repression of specific genes. DNA binding proteins known as eukaryotic transcription inhibitors regulate the repression of gene expression in eukaryotes. The presence of these inhibitors at the required location and time in the cell is triggered by the presence of hormones and additional signals from other cells. Eukaryotic transcription inhibitors usually contain two distinct domains, a DNA...

Modelling Intratumoral Treatment with miRNA Inhibitors: A Method to Analyze the Effect of miRNA Inhibitors on Tumor Growth in Murine Model

2023

This video demonstrates the in vivo delivery of miRNA inhibitors as therapeutic agents against tumor growth in orthotopic mouse models. The intratumoral administration of synthetic miRNA inhibitors or antagomiRs allows them to bind and inhibit endogenous miRNAs, thereby causing mRNA upregulation and suppression of tumor growth.
