Phase Angle Shift

Phase angle shift is a change in the relative phase between oscillations or sinusoidal signals, showing how their peaks, troughs, or zero crossings are offset in time. In periodic systems, a time delay produces a phase shift that depends on frequency, while energy-storage elements such as inductors and capacitors can shift voltage relative to current in alternating-current circuits; the angle is commonly expressed in degrees or radians. Measuring phase angle shifts helps characterize wave interference, resonance, impedance, and signal propagation, with applications in circuit analysis, acoustics, optics, communications, and experimental studies of dynamic systems.

Phase-shift nanoemulsions (PSNE) can be vaporized using high intensity focused ultrasound to enhance localized heating and improve thermal ablation in tumors. In this report, the preparation of stable PSNE with a narrow size distribution is described. Furthermore, the impact of vaporized PSNE on ultrasound-mediated ablation is demonstrated in tissue-mimicking phantoms.

Sound Waves and Doppler Shift

Source: Arianna Brown, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA Waves are disturbances that propagate through a material medium or empty space. Light waves can travel through a vacuum and some forms of matter, and are transverse in nature, which means that the oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of propagation. However, sound waves are pressure waves that travel through an elastic medium like air,...

New Variations for Strategy Set-shifting in the Rat

Set-shifting, a form of behavioral flexibility, requires an attentional shift from one stimulus dimension to another. We extended an established rodent set-shifting task1 by requiring attention to different stimuli according to context. The task was combined with specific lesions to identify neuron subtypes underlying a successful shift.
