Thuan Beng Saw is a Lee Kuan Yew Research Fellow at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanobiology Institute at National University of Singapore. His work lies at the interface of active soft matter and mechanobiology. He has uncovered important biophysical principles of collective cell fate using epithelial tissue models, such as the introduction of active liquid crystal analogies in understanding cell migration and apoptosis, and more recently the investigation of bioelectric effects in non-excitable cells.
