Dr Mark Turner began his research career by completing his PhD at Newcastle University, UK in which he studied the effects of elevated carbon dioxide levels on cAMP signaling and CFTR activity in human airway epithelial cells. Following this, he joined the laboratory of Dr John Hanrahan at McGill University, Canada as a postdoctoral research fellow. There, he studied the role of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs) on cAMP regulated CFTR activity and inflammatory responses and assessed the therapeutic potential of PDE inhibitors for Cystic Fibrosis and other lung disease. Currently as a research associate, Dr Turner has begun to investigate the pathophysiology of SARS Cov2 infection in both healthy and CF primary human bronchial epithelial cells. His major research interests focus on cell signaling pathways in airway epithelia and how dysregulation of these pathways lead to disease.
