Hannah Wirtshafter is a systems neuroscientist who uses in vivo electrophysiology and calcium imaging to study learning, memory, and navigation. She received her PhD in 2019 from the Department of Biology at MIT, where, under the supervision of Dr. Matt Wilson she investigated the role of the lateral septum and hippocampus in the representation of space, movement, and reward during a navigational task. She is currently a postdoc at Northwestern University in the lab of Dr. John Disterhoft, where she researches contextual associative conditioning and learning. In her spare time, she likes to do arts and crafts (especially fiber crafts), bake cakes, and tend to her absurd number of houseplants.
